Just in case someone want to discuss weather stations or wants to comment on the subject I want to open this category.

    Nice web site.
Greetings and happy new year from Southern Lancaster County.
Main reason I’m posting is to ask about THW index. That’s a new one on me. I looked it up online for an explanation of what it was. Sounds like it is a summer or winter feel like temp reading? More accurate then Heat index in summer or wind chill in winter? Why show the other two if this seems to do both?

    • To tell you the Truth. It came with the software. I do know that the computation is a little different. I will do a little more research and let you know.

    • Well here is what I found out on the difference between a Heat Index (HI), a Wind Chill index WCI, and a THW index. All are derived from a mathematical formula and you can do a web search on them. My description is more general.

      1. A heat index or HI is the temperature the body feels when humidity and temperature are combined. The higher the humidity the hotter a given temperature feels.
      2. The Wind chill index is the temperature the body feels wind and temperature are combined. The higher the wind speed the colder a give temperature feels.
      3. The Temperature Heat and Wind index takes all three. It combines air temperature, wind chill index, and heat index to produce a more accurate apparent temperature. This is how the temperature will feel when you are out of the sun.
      4. There is a third THSW Index that combines the air temperature, wind chill index, the heat index, solar radiation, latitude and longitude, and time of day. This is how the temperature will feel when you are in the sun. Unfortunately I don’t have a solar radiation sensor so I cannot derive that index. My Vantage Pro will provide it if I hook up a sensor to the array. Maybe I will get one for my birthday.

Thanks for the response. Had not heard of THW or THSW till recently.
Off subject, but are you southern folk that moved north? Turn your heat down in the house, 77?. I warm just seeing that. Get a set back thermostat for when (if) no one is home during the day. It will pay for the setback thermostat & your solar radiation sensor. :)

I have noticed that. Console where the inside temp is measured sits in my bedroom. That way when I wake up I can see all the important information when I wake up. I have noticed that the inside sensor is not very sensitive. Seems to be higher that what the thermostat on my ac/heater indicates. Flucuates too!. Think I can adjust it but when I look at it when I am not at home I normally subtract about 5 degrees from what it shows. The outside tempreture sensor agrees with MADIS standards. Anyway thanks for the post.

Weather info has not been updated for over 1.5 hours – is your system down?
